Ness Ziona, Israel - March 2010 – Morel, a leading manufacturer of high-end loudspeakers, is pleased to introduce a new level of refinement in floor-standing loudspeakers with the company’s most advanced home product to date–the fat lady.

The fat lady project represents a journey of discovery for Morel lasting more than three and half years. The goal of this project was to develop not only a true high-end loudspeaker, but to use that knowledge to introduce a new philosophy and direction for the company.

The fat lady cabinet is truly unique, borrowing technology from Formula 1 race cars in that it is fashioned from carbon fibre composite. The extreme flexibility of this material enabled the designers to produce the curves that served the acoustic sound quality objectives while giving the speaker its sensuous signature profile.

Void of straight lines, the curved cabinet resembles a musical instrument, enabling the fat lady to go without the use of internal damping prevalent in conventional speaker systems. By means of this calculated design, the fat lady cabinet is allowed to vibrate with the drive units and use this energy as part of the reproduced sound. The magic, however, is in how the cabinet radiates music with the drive units yet stops immediately when the drive unit stops so there are no delayed resonances. The result is a speaker system that is so transparent and natural that it sounds as if there were no cabinet at all.

The fat lady's drive unit line up consists of:
• High frequencies are handled by a high-end Supreme™ tweeter featuring a 1.1" (28mm) hand-coated
   Acuflex™ soft dome, and fitted with an underhung voice coil.
• Midrange frequencies are managed by a specifically designed 6” drive unit fitted with a 3-inch,
  underhung voice coil featuring Morel’s EVC™ (External Voice Coil) technology, and a carbon fibre/Rohacell sandwich cone.
• Bass is comprised of two 9” units, each fitted with a 3” External Voice Coil (EVC™) technology, and a carbon fibre/Rohacell sandwich cone.

The fat lady is a technical tour de force incorporating many innovative design solutions. It has already received favourable reviews in markets worldwide, and taken top honours for the 2009 CES Design and Engineering Innovation. The true test of a loudspeaker is to listen to it.
